Music for Martin Choral Anthem Information

Posted By ADMIN on May 6, 2022 |

In the days before COVID, the FUMC Music Ministry launched a commissioning project to have a choral anthem written in memory and honor of Martin Jones, our former Director of Music and Arts.  We approached Mary McDonald, one of the top composer’s of sacred choral music, to fulfill this commission.  She has done this, and we are presenting this new choral work in our June 26, 2022 worship service.

Rehearsals:  We will rehearse the music weekly in our regular Chancel Choir rehearsals.  If you are available and would like to join us for any of those sessions, please feel free to come.  We rehearse at 6:45 on Wednesday nights, and will work on “Created in Christ Alone” first so that you will be able to leave after.

We will meet in the choir loft at 9:45 to rehearse on the 26th. (Please arrive prior to that time for music folders and to organize seating.)

There are two options for the service.
1) Sing with the Chancel Choir, in the loft, for the full service.
2) If you prefer to sing the anthem only, you may sit in the congregation and come into the choir loft for the anthem.

I would like to ask everyone to wear a choir robe. Martin was very proper about these things in regard to worship services, and I believe it would be appropriate. After we we rehearse, we’ll go to the choir room and everyone can find a robe. (If you’re going to sing with the choir for the service, please feel free to dress comfortably under the robe.)

I will have a complete music folder prepared for everyone, including all of the service music. The music for worship will be:

Choral Introit:  The Majesty and Glory of Your Name (reduced version, not the full anthem, found in the Celebration Hymnal)
Hymn:  Lift High the Cross
Hymn:  Here I Am, Lord
Hymn:  Pass It On
Choral Response:  Hear Our Prayer, O Lord

Following the service, we will have a church-wide reception in the Frank Ealand Hall.

We are excited about this service. The anthem is beautiful, and we have had very productive rehearsals on it. We look forward to joining with all of your wonderful voices!
