Boxing Day

Posted By ADMIN on Nov 29, 2021 |

Despite the often-misleading title, Boxing Day is a traditional day of charity originating in early 19th century England.  Observed on December 26th, Boxing Day is a time when wealthier families would “box up” their extra clothing and food leftover from the first day of Christmas and give to local charities and families in need.  Boxing Day is also traditionally a day to give gifts to those who provide public services, such as police officers, postal workers, and garbage collectors.

With Christmas Day falling on a Saturday this year, the last Sunday of the month will be December 26th, Boxing Day.  With this opportunity, FUMC Jasper will be celebrating our own version of Boxing Day that Sunday morning.  Beginning around 10:00 am, we will have a fellowship breakfast followed by an assortment of local mission and charity-focused boxing activities.  There will be opportunities for all ages to participate in preparing boxes.  The list of charities and needed supplies is below.  This day of charitable activity will be in place of our regular worship service, but we will still be sure to sing Christmas hymns.

Acts 20:35 And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
