“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people:  to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11

“Joy to the World,” written in 1719, celebrates its 300th anniversary this Christmas.  Appropriately, our 2019 Christmas Cantata is called “Wings of Joy.”

Lowell Alexander, the composer, wrote this cantata with the concept of “joy” in every song.  “Every song not only contains the message of the joy of the Lord, but also includes the word “joy” in some form.  My vision was to tie it all together with narrations and scriptures around the carol “Joy to the World.”

“Wings of Joy” is a fresh, contemporary approach to the story of the first Christmas.  Moments of great beauty and of unalloyed happiness and excitement are found throughout this work.
